Good morning, everybody, or good day, depending upon when you are listening. Hello, I am Jaclyn Strominger, and welcome to the Unstoppable Success Podcast. On this podcast, we hear from amazing individuals. We hear their insights, their tips, their true tips and tricks for having unstoppable success. And today I get to introduce you to the one and only Angeline Constantinouu. And let me tell you a little bit about Angeline. She is a faith-driven coach, she's a speaker, podcast host. I was fortunate to be on her show, an advocate for women who are ready to break free from the past and step into their power. After walking away from an abusive relationship and rebuilding her own life from the ground up, Angeline turned her pain into purpose. With 28 years of experience in sales, leadership, coaching, she now helps women heal from domestic violence, divorce, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs so that they can reclaim their confidence, peace, purpose, and abundance. She is recognized by MSN as a top standout entrepreneur. Angeline is on a mission to help women move from victim to victor and remember that they deserve to be heard, loved, free, and fully alive. Angeline, welcome to Unstoppable Success.
Oh, thank you so much, Jaclyn. So honored and blessed to be here today with you on your podcast. And Jaclyn was on my podcast a little over a month ago. And it's so great to be here with you. I love your podcast and I love your mission. And thank you to serve and here to help women.
Yeah. And that's and it's you know, and and unstoppable success. We always say, you know, it takes a tribe, right? So it does. You know, I kind of want to start. Your your message is really really, really powerful. So from victim to victor. So can you take us back to the moment when you realized you have to choose yourself? Like I have to choose myself.
Yes, I can take you back to that time. So once upon a time, I used to be married to I thought was going to be the love of my life. He was a successful businessman, lived in, and I had just moved to New York in 1988. So it was in my 20s, went to college and all this stuff. So I thought he was going to be the love of my life. And you know, at that time he wore the mask and very successful and very driven, ambitious, had his own advertising business. So I started we started dating and I started to work in this business. And this is before we were married, and brought in six-figure income. So people said, Oh my god, they're living the Hollywood life, you know, that label that people put on ourselves. So we got married at the justice of the peace in 1988, and then gradually we bought we had bought a house in the Hudson Valley, and then gradually he started to take off the mask, and abuse happened. There was verbal abuse. He accused me of commingling funds when it was the other way around. He accused me of bouncing checks, and he was writing out balance transfer checks to buy mutual funds against our credit. So, plus, there was a time when he threw me against the wall and I broke my nose, my nose was broken because of the force, and I ended up in the hospital and three days later, reconstructive nose surgery. But I still stayed in the marriage because there's a lot of shame and guilt. And also in that type of situation, it's dangerous to leave right away. And there's a lot of people who don't understand that. Like, why didn't you leave? Like, people will ask, well, and they did ask me, and I said, because of shame and guilt, and I was afraid. I feared for my life. So for the next few years, I chose myself. I started to work in corporate America to make a name for myself. And I worked on personal development, then I got involved in the online space. Then finally, I had the courage to file for divorce in May of 2010 with basically no money. I wrote out my last check and my savings for $5,000 to start divorce proceedings. However, I did so then I got involved in the online space and I started to surround myself with people, mentors who are on a higher level than me. And it was that mindset shift, if that makes sense. So knowing that I could live on my own, knowing that I can empower other women, that not only can they leave their abuser, but they can step into their true purpose and calling. And there, you know, like now, like today, there are women who reach out to me, and you know, a lot of some feel stuck. They can't get out, but you can get out. But it's a process, you have to make a plan. So I made a plan. It was a one-year plan to leave, and I left. There was a witness at the house when I packed up all my personal belongings and boxes, moved to a small one-bedroom apartment in Saratoga Springs, New York, at the time, where I lived there for 16 years, and I started to plant seeds there. And then I was involved in a health and wellness business that changed my life. And a month later, I'm flying to California to LA for a conference. So you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you trust and believe and have faith in yourself. So that's what I did. That's what I did. And it's life-changing. And then I found my purpose was my podcast. It's seven years, let's break the silence with Angeline. My podcast is ranked 15th in the US in terms of domestic violence. Meaning, it's I did some days, I worked up something.
In that genre, right. That genre, right.
That genre, and in that genre, right. I was like, whoa, 15.
Right.
But so I want to go back for a second because listeners, I some that it's really important to for you to understand something and and for to having unstoppable success does not necessarily mean you know having unstoppable success like right this second. It takes time, right? Like, and there's a process to it. Right. It's it's you know, I always it's I feel like it's like the mission, it's like the 10-year overnight success. And but but the the one thing that you have to do, like if you are feeling stuck at this moment, if you are feeling like whether you are stuck, you know, because stuck can be it in in a marriage, it could be stuck in a a company that you're working for with a boss. I mean, I can tell you for eons, I I worked with a particular boss at one company, and I there was something about it that I just felt like I wasn't flourishing. And I remember like I was I tried, I thought I was gonna get a new job and I was gonna leave. Then I I did what everybody I tell everybody don't do. Like I I was given a counteroffer and I stayed, which was wrong. And then because it's like staying in the abuse, it's like it's staying in that abuse, right?
And I've been there in corporate America. My last position was like that. But my voice was quashed, like similar to what you were talking about.
But that's the whole thing. It's like you have to so listeners, you know what Angeline just said, which is like making that plan, make the plan to to move to and set a date and know that, and even being able to surround yourself with other people that will empower you to do that, right?
Exactly. That's so important. That is so important to surround yourself with people who believe in you, because you know, I had to I had to believe in myself, and so people who believe in you believe in your mission. And I know with my last corporate job, you know, I wasn't recognized. And not only that, I felt that my voice was quashed, you know, just like I had no say. In other words, I couldn't be creative. Let's, you know, let's try this strategy. It was their way or the highway.
I and I hate when you're in that position. It's like it's it's like do as I say, and that's it. Yeah. Like if an robots exactly, exactly. So so, you know, you you went from this, you know, from having a lack of confidence to now like you exude it, like you have so much confidence and purpose. What do you think what do you think unstoppable success means to a woman who's healing and and reclaiming her voice and stepping into her power?
That is a very good question. So that for me means as you're going through the healing process, there's going to be breakthroughs. So that's what it means to be unstoppable success. It has to do with your mindset. Mindset is everything. And if you have if you have a vision and you have a dream to change people's lives and to empower other women that they can free themselves from the past, free themselves from their abuser. And for me, like you know, what lights you up? I always ask women, what lights you up? And it's all about reclaiming your self-worth, and that helps you reclaim your self-worth. Oh, I can do this, I can start a podcast, I can do pottery, I can write poetry. That will lead to something. That's gonna lead to something. So that's what unstoppable success means to me. You know, breaking free from the past, breaking free from the limiting beliefs because for all those years, those limiting beliefs were imposed on you because you were told I'm not gonna make it. Or, you know, like I was told you're not gonna make it. You're gonna end up with mom and dad again, you're gonna end up with this and that, that. That takes a toll on your brain, it takes a toll on your self-worth. So for me, it's rebuilding my self-worth, and I'm always working on myself. I'm always working on myself in my healing, and you know, there are things that were holding me back from actually starting the podcast, also going live on Facebook, sharing my story. Now, talk about Unstoppable. I took the phone in March of 2018, recorded a live for 18 minutes, and I'm like, it's going viral. It went to 7 million views, and I like it just went viral. All because I demonstrated authenticity and vulnerability. In fact, I I cried in the in the beginning of the video because I was so afraid to share my story, but then I came around, I got encouragement from my audience because I told the whole world I'm gonna share my story, and that did it. That did it. When was that you said in 2018? 2018 in March, yes. And that was a huge breakthrough for me. That was huge. I'm like, now I can go live. Was that the first time you went live? Yeah, the first time. That was the very first time because my mentor encouraged me. He said, Angeline, you have not shared your story yet. You haven't showed your vulnerability, you know, you haven't done this and done that. So we did some. So I I did a lot of bitter work, which I do teach my clients. So a lot of bitter work, shadow work, and yeah, peeling back the onions. So he peeled back the onion, and then all of a sudden I went live. I said, I'm gonna go live on this date and at this time, and I'm not backing out. I am going to finish what I started. So I did it. That's awesome. Yeah, I know.
That is so great. But that's actually a really that there's two things there, you know. Obviously, number one, having somebody who's a mentor and a coach to help you see what's inside of you that sometimes you can't see within yourself, right?
Exactly.
And that's really important. And then the other thing that I think that is that is is really you know great is the authenticity and being vulnerable. You know, and I I think that it's it's really important to remember that we are all human, right?
We're all human.
And you know, what stops you from, you know, is it, you know, people want to see the authenticity, they want to see the raw truth, they want, I mean, why are bloopers so funny? Like, what why does everybody like to see the bloopers? Because it's the real stuff, it's like, right? Like exactly.
I mean, not the like exactly.
I just thought of that, yeah. Right? The bloopers, yeah. So it's it's like you know, it's the good, the bad, and the ugly, but it's like in the funny, right? And so we when we're when we share that stuff, people can relate better.
Exactly. You hit the nail on the head, people can relate better because they they can relate, they related to my story. In fact, there was a lady from the UK, part of the reason it went viral because she was sharing in all the Facebook groups that are on our page and everyone in creation, and that's how a movement starts. That's a ripple effect. So, my goal and my mission, and and I'm still working on that, is creating a ripple effect for women to come together and share their real life stories, and also to be empowered because your story is going to create impact in someone's life, people are scrolling, and we didn't have TikTok at the time in 2018, so there's a lot of social media platforms they and you know, I I follow women who have shared their story and have gone viral on TikTok, and they're helping thousands of women, thousands of women to rebuild their identity because it's so important, especially in this situation, because domestic violence is a taboo topic, meaning it's shoved under the carpet, and that's one of the reasons I started the podcast in the first place to break the silence. It's finally time to break the silence and for women to come forward. And, you know, and for those women who have worked with me, their lives have changed. And one of them was a woman who has a son who's autistic, and she was in a domestic violence situation, and she came to me after the whole thing was over, but she was still struggling with limiting beliefs, and she was struggling with people pleasing and what her family thought of her, and she kept changing her account, she kept, you know, she kept doing all that. I said, That's you're putting them on a you're giving them the power. The fact that you're doing that, you're giving them the power to dictate your life. I said, No, doesn't work that way. Doesn't work that way. I'll help you, you know. So we uncovered a lot of stuff, and she took my nine-week coaching program, and you know, now she is doing what I'm doing without the podcast. She is sharing her son's journey with autism, right? And helping other moms.
That's you know, it's so powerful. So I, you know, it's I guess you know, I'm curious about some of the statistics, right? So, like, you know, how many pe you know, it do you know, like what's the rough idea as to how many people are living in a in a abusive domestic violent relationship that are not out of it?
One in four. One in four. Yeah, in fact, I delivered a keynote in London three months ago, and yeah, the statistics are yeah, one in four women.
Is it well, I guess to say it's not just women that are probably in a domestic it could be.
I think men is one in seven, one in seven, but women, a lot more women, yeah, are living in domestic violence, and in Europe, it's so bad. We have no idea. Like in the UK, in Greece, I was in Greece last week to deliver another keynote, and yeah, what people have told me, it's like, yeah, in Greece, it's really bad, like in terms of you know, women, because the men tend to be domineering, they're dominant, and it's like their way or the highway, right? Yeah, culturally, it's that culturally, right, culturally, exactly. The women have no say, like you do what I tell you to do, or else oh yeah, it's very bad.
So if you were to give somebody like five tips, like you know, um like is there something that you almost like can see now, like like looking back that you're like, oh, these were a few signs that maybe I if I was more aware that would have been a signal or a sign that this isn't good?
Recognizing the red flags in the beginning because we feel that you know, like as women, we're nurturers and we want to work things out. So for me, it's recognizing the red flag that you know he was domineering, that he was controlling and manipulative. And when I look back on it, I would have just ended the relationship. I just would have ended it immediately. Unless you change. Nope, nope, because I can live on my own because I lived on my own, anyways. Right going to college and working and going to school, so you know, because uh we all have the power, we it's in it's within us. We all have the power to reclaim our worth and to re that's every everything, reclaiming your confidence, right? Right, reclaiming your confidence. And I was not, I guess at the time I wanted to get married. I probably felt pressured from my parents to get married. So married, have the kids, have the kids, see, we're conditioned, right? Go to college, get a job, get married, have kids.
Do what you want, and that's actually the important thing. It's like, you know, think about what you want in your life. It's just because somebody else wants it for you doesn't mean it's right for you.
Exactly, exactly, and that's where the people pleasing came in. So it became a vicious cycle because I was there to please my parents, and then that led to that and to the marriage and all that. So I took my power back by taking ownership. I recognized it and I said, that's it, I'm now in a position where I can file for divorce, and I don't care because what good is the money if I'm miserable? And yeah, because he had, you know, I and he took, I mean, I had $20 in my purse. I went to the bank and thinking that I was gonna withdraw half the money, and the money was gone already. Yeah, and I was crying and sick and all that. I was just like, now what do I do? And but I had people, I asked for help.
That is actually another key thing, asking for help. Unstoppable success. It takes it takes a tribe, whether you like it or not, like it takes a tribe. And I will say this, you know, you think about you need to ask for help and you need to have people in your corner, you know. You might think of right, like you know, we think of people who have had success, right? Right, but they didn't do it on their own. They there were people around them that supported them. So being able to so kudos to you for being able to like always say, Pat yourself on the back for asking for help.
Right, that's right. That's right. Celebrate. That's a huge celebration of itself, asking for help. Because I was afraid to ask for help, but I said, Nope, I'm gonna I'm gonna ask for help. People they they let me stay in their homes. They paid for hotel rooms. And I started to lead into God again. And you know, I did some volunteer work for the church, which was great because I got outside of myself.
Right.
And I met other women. So yes. Be, and then I realized that I could live on my own. I could realize that I could go out on a date by myself and go have lunch or just go have a coffee, you know, which I still do today. So with the exception of being with a with a tribe, but you know, like Santorini, for example, that's you know, we're we're members of CLA, Connected Leaders Academy, and it's a great community. And you can tell who has your back. I know that people have my back, including yourself. So that's a great feeling. So getting outside of yourself and getting support, find a community that is empowering. It could be, you know, like when I moved to Saratoga Springs, I joined a community of women. Yeah. And we would get together once a week.
Be part of a community. And that and that's actually something that I think that is, you know, I don't I feel like this is another really key point. Listeners, find a community, whether it's a mastermind or a group of people, but there are different types of groups that are out there. And I will put in the show notes actually a few different communities that are out there for you to join. CLA, which is one that we are part of. Um, it's a great community to be in. Absolutely love it. But find a community that you know that you can connect with other people. And as Angeline just said, know people that are gonna have your back.
There you go. There you go. That's so important. So important, ladies. So important. Make sure you find a community that has your back. I mean, I joined a coffee group in Saratoga and we met like every, not every week, but every other week. Right. It was great. Yes.
Yeah.
And I think that's also, you know, key, you know, key for all of us, you know, what if whether you're so many of us work out of our house, and so it's like finding the place where you can get out of your house too, right? Right, right. Just, you know, but finding that tribe, again, it you know, it's your tribe, your your vibe attracts your tribe, and you want to build it, and and having that community of people that support you is really important.
Exactly. Exactly.
So when you think back, like what was what was the what was one thing that that you're like, okay, that gave you the courage to take that first step?
The one thing was believing in myself. And I set goals for myself. It was only I think three or four goals was number one to get out. Number two is to move to like Saratoga Springs. That was my that was my safe haven there, and so belief. So it's belief, belief in belief, belief, and having faith in yourself because when you believe in yourself, you're unstoppable. Nothing is going to stand in the way. There's gonna be obstacles, like moving here to Florida, for example, two years ago was a huge move for me because I'm selling everything and I'm leaving the past behind to come down here to Florida, and I live in a great community. I do. This is a great community. So having you know, having that belief in myself and determination and that confidence that is unstoppable success. And nothing will stand in your way in achieving your goals. You're gonna run up, you know, you may have some obstacles, and it's gonna happen. You know, the devil's gonna try to, you know, come in and destroy you. Nope, not gonna happen. Just like push it away, push it away, push the fear and doubt away.
That is actually right. So, Angeline, I you're you're really remarkable and incredible. And I think I love what you are doing. I love the fact that you are helping women and men. I mean, it just, you know, that um, you know, breaking out of self-doubt and and getting out of domestic violence and being able to have the confidence and the courage is so important.
It is, it takes a lot of courage.
